譚嘉陵 (Catherine Tan Chan)

1966年台灣大學農化系畢業,1973年加州大學柏克萊生化博士。繼續在波士頓大學醫學院,從事四年心臟病高血壓及血管硬化方面的博士後研究。繼在藥廠做了四年賀爾蒙RIA微量測定法的研究發展。獲有兩項有關hCG及Prolactin測定方法的專利權。

1962 年開始學習國晝,師承 邵幼軒、朱念慈、梁丹丰、孫聖嘉、江昭美等大師。擔任麻州牛頓中文學校國畫教師己34年 (1982 年開始)。1989年創辦中華表演藝術基金會 (Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts, www.ChinesePerformingArts.net )。每年定期舉辦各種古典音樂會,胡桃山音樂營,絲竹春吟青少年中國器樂比賽,及全美中文學校國畫書法比賽等活動。

曾任紐英崙中華專業人員協會會長及董事長,美華協會紐英崙分會會長,大波士頓中華文化協會斡事,台北新民小學校董等。現任紐英崙藝術學會董事,紐英崙中華專業人員協會董事,胡桃山藝術高中 (Walnut Hill School for the Arts) 校董等義工。也是哈佛音樂協會 (Harvard Musical Association) 會員。

Dr. Catherine T. Chan (譚嘉陵) received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of California, Berkeley in 1974, and was granted two U.S. patterns for the development of Prolactin and solid phrase beta-HCG RIA assays.

Dr. Chan is the Founding President of the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts (www.ChinesePerformingArts.net), a non-profit organization since 1989 for the promotion of Asian heritage through music and performing arts. Currently, over 116 classical concerts have presented world renowned Asian musicians to critical acclaims at prestigious venues such as Boston Symphony Hall, New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, Harvard Sanders Theatre, and Carnegie Hall in New York. The Annual All-American Chinese painting and calligraphy competition as well as the summer music festival at Walnut Hill are in their 25th years.   The Youth Poetry in Silk and Bamboo Annual Chinese Music Instrument Audition and Concert started in 2008 and it was a success. She is currently on the board of Walnut Hill School for the Arts, New England Association of Chinese Professionals, and Chinese American Fine Arts Society. She is a resident member of the Harvard Musical Association since 2014. She was awarded the “Certificate of Recognition 1991” by Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn, and the “Official Resolution 2000” issued by President James M. Kelly of Boston City Council, by Phi Lambda US, Boston Chapter in 2005, and by Chinese Culture Connection in 2005.

Dr. Chan has been practicing traditional Chinese brush paintings since 1962. Her artworks were shown in solo and group exhibitions. She was invited for painting demonstration at Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 2011, and has been teaching Chinese brush painting at Newton Chinese Language School since 1982.
